Generally speaking, while just about anyone can become a nurse, not everyone actually has the ability or the temperament to become a nurse. For many individuals, a diploma in nursing is the easiest and cheapest way to get started. This program is generally conducted by a hospital and can take two to three years to complete. Unfortunately today, many employers look for an associate’s degree at minimum, and prefer the bachelors degree. There are a number of individuals that must work to help pay for their nursing education, and that is why an associate’s degree helps. The associate’s degree can normally be acquired in approximately two years, and once you have that, you can take the nursing exam, get a job in the nursing field, and then take the required courses for the bachelors degree that will fit into your schedule and budget. Once an individual acquires their bachelors degree, advancing on to the masters degree program is not far, and many more job opportunities become available, as does the higher salary.

The requirements to become a nurse are typically fairly straightforward and if you are truly serious about completing the process, it is possible to be finished in as little as only a couple of short years with the associate degree program. It is important to remember though, many of the advanced nursing programs will require you to spend a much longer period of time in school, however, you will be qualified for a variety of career path changes. There will be positions as legal nurse consultants, clinical nurse consultant, and even nurse practitioner. This training will take you as far as you want to go and where you prefer to work.
